Cousins

This week Ali and Maren, my brother Aaron's daughters, have stayed with us. Aaron is in the hospital recovering from a perforated colon, and we took the girls so his wife could focus on taking care of him and the kids could get their minds off the stress at home. It has been a great week to get to know the girls better and watch the cousins have fun together.

Rebecca and Maren are about the same age. The have had a great time playing and talking together. They have been playing hide-and-seek in the house and they have come up with some great hiding places. They compared their abilities to use the kitchen counter as a starting point to do a back bend. They played Uno together. They have become friends.

Ali is 15, so she is more of the big sister to the group. What a blessing! It has been great to watch her play with the kids and see her truly enjoy spending time with the little children. I can see that she will be a fabulous mother and a truly amazing woman. I am so grateful for the time I have had to visit with her and get to know the wonderful person she is. I am proud to call her family.

I took the kids to Discovery Days at the Longmont Museum while Rebecca was in school on Friday. They had a great time. Miriam and Maren had a great time sitting next to each other and comparing crafts. They especially loved to do the face painting. (Maren says red and black are Twilight colors. Can you tell she has older sisters???)

We also went to Casa Bonita with the kids. We got a great table right by the pool. I loved watching their eyes light up as the performers dove into the water. They were amazed by all the action going on around them. This is the wonder of childhood.

Tomorrow I am taking the girls home. I am sad to see them go, since we don't see each other very often. I will treasure this time that we have had to develop the love and friendship of cousins.

I bet it has been nice to have a 15 year old around all day. It's kind of like a live in babysitter! I'm sure you'll miss the help and the friend for Miriam too.
