Today, after I was finished exercising, I went to pick up the kids from the child care center at the gym. Once I found them, I had to help them get their shoes back on. (There is a McDonald's-type climbing area where no shoes are allowed.)
So Miriam was sitting on the floor, putting on her shoes. I had just gotten Joseph's shoes on him. I looked down at Miriam, and there was a little boy her age planting a kiss right on her lips. Okay, he didn't aim very well, so it wasn't right on the lips. But he tried. I kind of pushed Miriam's head away and told her, "No kissing!"
Miriam immediately starts wiping her mouth like she could wipe the kiss off. She finished putting on her shoes and we left. While we were walking to the car, I talked to her about it.
Mom: Who was that boy who kissed you?
Miriam: I'm not sure.
Mom: Why did you kiss him?
Miriam: I like him. We played together.
Mom: You are too little to kiss boys like that. That is just for mommies and daddies to do.
(Later on, as we are driving home)
Miriam: I think he was going swimming because he had on his swimming shorts.
So Miriam had her first kiss with a boy that she doesn't even know his name. I hope when she gets older, she will remember to know a lot more about a boy than if he's going swimming or not before she kisses him. Oh, and you need to be 16 to date, sweetie!
