Old Timers

The thought came to me recently that we have lived here longer than we have lived anywhere during our married lives.  When we got married, we lived in Fort Collins for a little over a year while we finished college.  Then we moved to Kansas City and lived there for 4 1/2 years, but we lived in an apartment, a duplex and a house during that time.  Then we lived with Jack's parents for 6 months while building this house.  And we have now lived in this home for 4 1/2 years.  Wow.

But I find my thinking hasn't really shifted from short-term living to long-term residence.  I think of the new library that we go to.  But really, can you consider something that has been there for 2 1/2 years new anymore?  What about the Wal-Mart and Target and even the mall that have been built since we lived here?  Really, these things don't pop up overnight!

This week I had an experience that really opened my eyes to how long we've lived here.  I set up an appointment for Joseph to have an evaluation with a speech pathologist.  She has offices in Longmont and Brighton, and I decided to have the appointment in Brighton since we go to church there and so maybe I could do more than one thing while I was out that way.  When I set up the appointment I was told the office was at the hospital in the medical office building.  No problem.  I know where the hospital is.  I drove by it once when I was looking for a friend's house.  It's just across Bridge Street from the church.

So after a stressful morning, I drove to Brighton to take Joseph to this appointment.  You can imagine my shock and frustration when I turned and instead of seeing the sign for the hospital on the hospital building, it says, "Brighton Learning Center."  Luckily I had brought the phone number for the office and was able to find out where the hospital is.  Wouldn't you know they moved the whole hospital?!

Oh, and later I found out it has been at its 'new' location for over 3 years.
